Sorry this is a boring question, but I'm struggling.
My poor computer is bogged down with all my scrapping stuff & pictures. I would just put stuff on my external hard drive, but it's wierd. (They made it so "simple" there aren't enough editing options, and it saves things TO my computer instead of FROM it. And I can't figure out how to change it. But that's a whole other story!)
I need to get some stuff off my computer.
I was thinking of storing them somewhere online...I wanted somewhere free with unlimited photo storage. (with the option of making it private...i don't want the whole world looking at pictures of my little girl.)
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I just wanted to save everything from 2007 and older online, and then I can keep everything else that's THIS YEAR on my computer.
Do any of you use anything like this?
Any advice appreciated!
~Tara

No sorry I have no clue where you can do that. But what about just backing them up on CD/DVD. That always works for me... I have two ehd's one for my photography and one for my scrapping supplies and more. I never have any problems with those. But I still back up my files..what if?? somethings would crash...really I would be devestated!!

I feel your pain!! My poor computer is just groaning. :giggle I have to run out and get DVDs today. I can't scrap another thing because my program keeps crashing.

If you are using PSE then the way you choose things to go automatically to the EHD-

Go under Organizer>Edit>Preference>Camera or Card Reader. Set the new location and then the downloader will automatically put it all there. If you want to temporarily tell it to put the images somewhere else, when you are in the Photo Downloader box, under Location Choose Browse and pick a new place.

I know that is not what you are asking...and actually I am no help with that...put maybe that helps?

Free with unlimited storage I don't know. But I use flickr.com to have unlimited storage and it's not expensive. I love it! and you can make it private!

I just went out and bought 2 large flash drives. I am always scared I will scratch the CD's--I'm not the best at taking care of stuff! I don't know if this is a good idea or not. I like the option of going back and editing/adding/removing pics easily from the flash.

Sorry I have no advice on the online storage!

Photobucket is fabulous! They even have their own editing tools you can use right on their site. They make it real easy to share online as well. I'm not sure if it's unlimited storage, but I've been using it for years, and it's not full yet! :lol And you can make your albums private.

Oh, meant to say.... backups are ALWAYS a good idea! I have at least 3 copies of every photo I take. One on my computer, one on a backup drive, and then I burn them to DVD's every couple months.

I wish I was like that...
I have a mozy.com backup of everything and one copy in my EHD, but that's it. Too lazy to burn dvds! LOL

thanks ladies. i've got each month burned onto a cd, and have them on my computer. but i just was trying to figure out what's going on with my EHD, and it's giving me some "bad devide serial #" GREAT! So I've probably lost some 2006 & 2007 pictures. Luckily I've blogged about lots of stuff, and can get pictures from there. Otherwise I'd be TICKED if I lost all of them.
I just wanted somewhere that I could have them online...so if anything happened to my computer & EHD (my sister got a virus that attacked both), I'd have them either online or on CDs. I was just wondering how other people did this. With so many different options out there, I just wondered if there was a "better way."

Most of my photos are on Smugmug.com. Not free, but lots of great features. And because of all the hard drive issues I've been reading about, I caved and bought a subscription for online backup from Mozy.com.

I have mine on my laptop, an EHD, and DVDs. Because EHDs are just hard drives without the laptop, I still don't have 100% trust. I figure if a laptop hard drive can crash, so can an external one.

I also make DVDs of my zip folders that I have downloaded. Sort of a back-up to my back up. One day I actually plan to take the DVDs to my safety deposit box, but don't know when I'll get around to that.

I know, I know... overkill. But I don't want to spend a fortune replacing my supplies or, even worse, losing my pictures. Hopefully all my backing up will be for nothing...LOL!

The only online photo companies I have used are photobucket and snapfish. I don't think that snapfish is really for storage, more for sharing. I like photobucket, but don't have a lot of experience with it as I have only been using it for a couple of months. Good luck!

so i decided to upload all the photos that I KNOW I want to scrap with...or HAVE to keep to photobucket...but not every photo. (But those ones of Gramma down on the floor, playing with my DD...those ones I HAVE to keep!) Those are the ones I'm making SURE I have on my computer, backed up in my monthly CDs, and will now be putting up on photobucket (set to private) for free.
THANKS for all the great advice!
~Tara
(Oh, and I'm chatting online RIGHT NOW with tech support to figure out what's going on with my EHD...trying to get the pictures off of it. Which I will put on CD and on photobucket! -I learned my lesson!!!) Ü

Oooh, that's a bummer! Hopefully you are able to recover stuff!

I use good old fashion DVD's like Amy said, every few months I burn my photos, but they are also still on my computer too, and my laptop. :)
